The Central Sports Center was established on December 2, 1969 to prepare Olympians for the Olympic Games and to train young sports talents. Since 1974, it has been involved in the organization of sports events and support for Polish sports camps such celebrities as Adam Małysz, Justyna Kowalczyk, Tomasz Majewski, Krzysztof "Diablo" Włodarczyk, Kamil Stoch.

The activities of COS are focused on ensuring appropriate conditions for training athletes conducted by Polish sports associations, as well as preparing the national team to participate in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games or international championships.

Thanks to the extensive sports and training base, COS support many sports, including fencing, weightlifting, judo, wrestling, tennis, ski jumping, downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, athletics, sailing, boxing, canoeing, rowing, football, basketball, volleyball.
